Jetzt wo es langsam kalt und ein bisschen ungemütlich wird, denke ich doch öfters an unseren letzten Nordsee Urlaub. Das Wetter war einfach perfekt!

Our youngest daughter Veerle could finally (after being sick for a few weeks) celebrate her birthday with her girls friends. It was such a joy to see how much fun they had and how well these little girls got along with eachother!
I put lollipops on top of the cupcakes which are suppose to be little balloons. :) You can find the recipe for chocolate chip cupcakes here.(This time I didn´t add cranberries). The vanilla buttercream on top of the cupcakes is very rich, but so yummy! You´ll find the recipe at the end of this post.:)

Vanillebuttercreme
- 500g Puderzucker (gesiebt)
- 250g weiche Butter
- 1/2 Teel. Vanilleextrakt
- ca. 2 1/ Eßl. Wasser

- 18 oz (sifted) icing sugar
- 9 oz ( soft) butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Hach, Geburtstage sind doch etwas schönes! Aber besonders schön sind sie, wenn die Geburtagskinder auch gesund sind. :) Ihr könnt Euch denken, was jetzt kommt... Ja genau, alle drei unserer Kinder sind seit letztem Wochenende krank! Und gerade letztes Wochenende hatten unsere Veerle ihren 5. und unser Timon seinen 13. Geburtstag! (Endlich haben wir einen Teenager zu Hause :)). Wir haben es uns trotz Krankheit richtig nett gemacht und ganz ruhig und gemütlich gefeiert!
Hier erst einmal die Fotos von Veerles Geburtstagstorte...
Birthdays are so much fun! They are even more fun when everyone is happy & healthy. ;) Maybe you already know what I´m trying to tell you... All three of our kids have been sick since last weekend. Oh what a joy! And just last weekend it was Veerle´s 5th. and Timon´s 13th. birthday! Yay, we finally have a Teenager in our house! And even though everyone was not feeling well we still had a nice and relaxed day.
Here are some pictures of Veerle´s Birthday cake...
Veerle hatte sich sehnlichst eine Prinzessin auf ihrer Torte gewünscht. Ich wollte ihr auch eine Prinzessin aus Marzipan formen, aber dafür fehlte mir einfach die Geduld und die Zeit. Und so kam ich auf die Idee eine Prinzessin zu zeichnen. Veerlchen war so glücklich, als sie ihre Torte sah. Und ich war natürlich sehr erleichtert, dass sie ihr gefiel...

Vanillekuchen
Nun den Teig in die Backform geben und im Backofen ca. 45 Minuten backen. Dann aus dem Ofen nehmen und abkühlen lassen.
Vanille-Buttercreme
Ich habe 2 Böden gebacken, damit ich den Kuchen nicht durchschneiden muss.
Die Creme auf dem Boden gleichmäßig verteilen und den zweiten Boden darauflegen. Dann die Marzipandecke auf den Kuchen legen und andrücken. Fertig!
Vanilla sponge
Grease and line a deep 20cm round baking tin. Add the butter and sugar to the bowl of an electric mixer and cream together with the vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Add the eggs gradually and then sift the flour into the mixture and combine on a low speed. Spoon the mixture evenly into your tin. Bake approx. 45 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
Vanilla buttercream
I baked two sponges. (That way I didn´t have to divide them in half.) Spread the vanilla cream on the base of one sponge. Sandwich the other sponge. Put on top the Marzipan.

Ihr Lieben, nach zwei Wochen Urlaub an der Nordsee sind wir nun wieder zu Hause. Es war dort so schön und entspannend! Und die Luft war toll!
Ich hoffe, Euch geht es gut und Ihr genießt die Ferien und die Sonne genauso wie ich.
Und jetzt heißt es erstmal Koffer auspacken und Wäsche waschen... :o)
After our two week vacation at the North Sea we are back home again. We enjoyed it so much and had a fun and relaxed time!

Letzte Woche (am Feiertag) fuhren wir in den Tier und Pflanzenpark ganz in unserer Nähe. Die Kinder freuten sich und das Wetter war perfekt!
Last week we went to the Zoological and Botanical Garden which is close by. The kids were so excited and the weather was perfect!

...und Bären warteten ganz sehnsüchtig auf ihr Futter!
...and bears waited anxiously for there food to come!
Und glücklicherweise fanden unsere Kinder "wieder" ein paar große Stöcke zum spielen! Sammeln Eure Kinder auch so gerne Stöcke? Wir haben bestimmt schon hunderte in unserem Garten liegen... ;o)
And luckily our kids found "again" some long sticks to play with! Do your kids also love to collect sticks? I think we have already a hundred of them laying in our backyard...;o)

Wir waren diese Woche für ein paar Tage in Bamberg und haben die Altstadt etwas unsicher gemacht. ;o) Leider sind wir nun wieder zu Hause und die Schule geht Montag wieder los. :o(
Aber dieser Kurzurlaub hat uns allen sehr gut getan. Wir nahmen dort für 2 Tage eine persönliche Führung in Anspruch von Frau Katja Browarzik. (Sie spricht mehrere Sprachen wie z.B. Englisch, Holländisch, etc). Sie ist Kunsthistorikerin und weiß über die Stadt bestens bescheid! Was ich besonders schön fand, war das sie unsere drei Kinder immer mit einbezogen hat und alles sehr interessant erzählte!
This week we went for a few days to Bamberg to the historic city center. Sadly we are back home again and school is starting on Monday. :o(
But this short trip to Bamberg made us all happy. We had a personal tour guide for 2 days. Her name is Katja Browarzik. ( She also speaks English, Dutch, etc.) She is an art historian and knows all about the city and its history! What I liked the most was that she involved our three kids in the tour! Can you see the two red umbrellas? My kids are underneath the umbrellas and waving at me like crazy and my husband is standing next to them ( he is talking to me on the phone while I took the photo ;o) )!
